An unbeaten century from opener Robert Knight paved the way for Hanham to overcome Timsbury by six wickets at home in their basement battle in the Bristol and District League Division 1.  After setting a competitive target of 194-9 the visitors were always in the game but dropped catches and a devastating injury to teenage opening bowler Liam Hosford ultimately proved costly.

After electing to bat first on another blisteringly hot day Timsbury worked hard to maintain the momentum of their first win of the season the previous week. Lew Redwood (51) and Jon Strand(37) both produced their best knocks of the season and their fourth-wicket partnership of 55 set up the challenging total. Paul Cracknell too celebrated his recall to the team with a typically lively knock of 31. Knight, Aingworth, Alway and Bikram Hota each took a brace of wickets for the home side.

Knight dominated the home side’s reply after Liam Hosford had taken two early wickets in an impressive early spell. Strand followed up his batting with a tight spell of 1-25 in his eight overs but the match still hung in the balance when Hosford returned at the close of the innings. With just his second ball he received a sickening blow to the face and went to hospital where it was diagnosed as a broken jaw. As captain Jesse Bishop did his best to juggle his resources it proved a pivotal moment and Hanham got over the line with 11 balls to spare.

Timsbury’s second eleven had a day to forget in their home match with Golden Hill 4th XI and were beaten by 122 runs in the Bristol and District League Division 6. It had all begun so encouragingly for the home side who reduced the Bristol side to 79-5 mainly due to Zack Cox who recorded the fine figures of 4-46 from his eight overs. One of the youngest members of the side Daniel Gifford also shone bowling well to take 1-12 from five overs but a late flourish from Porter, who made an unbeaten 63, took the visitors to a challenging 200-8. Cory Versfeld and Dan Hill gave Timsbury a solid start but from 47-1 the innings imploded dramatically and losing their last nine wickets for a mere 31 runs they were dismissed for 78. Woodworth with 5-14 and Hughes (3-9) instigated the disappointing collapse.

It has been a long time coming but at last Timsbury can celebrate their first league win of the season    in the Bristol and District League Division 1 after winning by 23 runs at home to Claverham. Throughout the season they have created numerous match winning opportunities without finishing the job off but on this occasion they won the key moments for a well-deserved success.

After winning the toss and electing to bat the home side lost an early wicket but a key partnership of 71 between Lew Redwood (41) and Mark Sage (32) created a good base which for long periods they looked as though they would not fully exploit. Kev Sibley weighed in with 24 but the star of the show was Liam Hosford who changed the whole momentum of the match with a dynamic knock of 29 in just 10 balls striking five fours in the last over to enable the home side to reach a challenging total of 184. For the visitors Adam Hadfield took 3-23.

The Claverham reply was dominated by captain James Copeland who stayed strong while wickets were falling around him. Sam Hoddinott bowled another tight early spell to take 2-21 in his eight overs, Martin Richards collected 3-38 but it was Sibley (2-26) who grabbed the vital wicket of Copeland who fell to a tremendous catch by Liam Hosford for 88. It was a fine all-round display by the home side who will be hoping to maintain these standards for the rest of the campaign.

Timsbury’s second eleven made it a great day for the village club with a 26-run victory away to Dyrham and Hinton in the Bristol and District League Division 6. 52 from Cory Versfeld, 43 from Dan Hill and 29 from Paul Cracknell saw Timsbury reach a promising 132-2 but  a steady fall of wickets saw them eventually amass 193-8 from their 40 overs. Thomas Lewis, Andrew Lewis and Anthony Pearce each took two wickets for the home side.

A number of the Dyrham and Hinton batsmen got starts without ever going on to make the crucial contribution, Richard Greenwood top scoring with 28. Tom Parfitt (2-31), Oscar Humphries (2-36) and Yusef Parvez (2-40) took the bowling honours for the buoyant Timsbury team.

An under-strength Timsbury third eleven were no match for a strong Midsomer Norton third eleven losing at home by eight wickets in the Bristol and District League Division 9 East. Steve Ford (23) and Chris Rawlings fought hard at the top of the order but a total of 78 was never going to seriously challenge the league leaders who saw Bicknell take 4-13 and Brooks 3-21. Crocket (31) and Ablett (26 not out) saw the visitors safely home.

Timsbury missed a great opportunity to end their search for a first win of the season in the Bristol and District League Division 1 when they went down to a 24-run home defeat against second in the table Lansdown second eleven. After bowling first they had their high-flying Bath opponents in all sorts of trouble at 62-8 thanks mainly to a fine early spell from Sam Hoddinott who took 3-16 in his eight overs and the ever-consistent Martin Richards. Sam Bowery then changed the complexion of the game with a quickfire 24. With good support from Jackson Hamilton (22 not out) he saw Lansdown through to 105 with Richards finishing with 5-17.

In reply Lewis Redwood and Jon Strand made early encouraging inroads into the target and at 53-2 it was Timsbury’s game to lose. Enter Bowery who proceeded to follow up his batting exploits with a fine spell of leg spin bowling as Timsbury contrived to lose significant wickets. A late effort from Freddie Hosford gave the home side hope but from 71-5 they subsided to 81 all out with Bowery finishing with 4-19 and Harry Veal supporting well with 3-27.

Timsbury’s second eleven made a solid start in their away fixture against Bristol Eagles in the Bristol and District League Division 6 with an opening stand of 45 between Cory Versfeld and Josh Tucker . Thereafter, however, the innings fell apart with only Dan Hill reaching double figures as they collapsed to 87 all out with Khaleel Shaik taking 4-1. Albie Sage took two wickets for the visitors but the Eagles cruised to a seven wicket win in just over 20 overs.

Timsbury’s third eleven gave the club something to celebrate with a convincing seven-wicket victory at home to Bristol Lions in the Bristol and District League Division 9 East. The visitors made an excellent start with an opening stand of 80 between Hussain (31) and Ariz (30) but the club’s young brigade then took over with Daniel Gifford (4-38) and Milo Sage (2-30) helping to dismiss the Lions for 123. Matt Ball (49 not out) and Jake Brooks (34) followed up with a confident batting display that saw Timsbury safely home.

A superb century from opener Gary Pearcy was still not enough to secure a first win of the season for Timsbury’s first eleven who went down by four wickets away to Keynsham ‘s second eleven in the Bristol and District League Division 1. In his unfamiliar role at the top of the order he held the innings together with a fluent knock of 103 before being out off the last ball of the innings as Timsbury finished on 169-8. Cory Versfeld with a late cameo helped boost the visitors to a competitive score with Johnson taking 3-30 for the home side.

The home reply saw no score of large proportions but there was a noticeable consistency throughout the order with five players passing 20. Kennedy top scored with 32 and Johnson followed up his bowling exploits with 29. Timsbury battled hard and two tight spells from Sam Hoddinott (2-17) and Kev Sibley saw the game wide open at 133-6. A dominant unbeaten stand of 39 between Boulton and Emmott then settled the issue to dash Timsbury’s hopes.

Timsbury’s second eleven took part in a similarly tight game before eventually going down by two wickets at home to Stapleton second eleven in the Bristol and District League Division 6. Batting first Timsbury compiled 188-6 with notable contributions from Dan Hill (35), Ben Smith (28 not out) and Mike Reynolds (28). Stapleton made a strong start in reply putting on 60 for the first wicket but the home side kept up the pressure and at 136-6 the game was wide open. Oscar Mallon, Ben Smith and Lee Henderson each took two wickets but thanks to 43 each from Sam Millard and Mohammad Zaid Azhar Stapleton took the honours.

Despite making just 90 Timsbury’s third eleven fought hard in their away fixture against Whitchurch’s third eleven before going down by three wickets in the Bristol and District League Division 9 East.  Paul Sage used all his experience to hold the Timsbury innings together with a fine knock of 39 but no one else managed double figures. A competent bowling performance ensured that the home side had to work hard for their win and they used up more than 32 overs before eventually getting over the line. Albie Sage was Timsbury’s most successful bowler with 2-6.
